Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo: Homi Adajania’s latest offering, “Saas, Bahu Aur Flamingo” streaming on Disney+ Hotstar, is a revisionist soap opera about a secretive drug cartel, led by the matriarch Savitri played by the veteran actress Dimple Kapadia. The series is an interesting mix of quirkiness and unevenness, with a fun storyline that keeps you entertained.

Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo Movie Review: Savitri runs the Rani Co-operative, a cover for her real business of producing and distributing cocaine. She is assisted in her operations by her daughter Shanta and her two daughters-in-law, Kajal and Bijlee. However, when an adulterated version of their signature “Flamingo” product puts a politician’s son in a coma, Savitri realizes there’s trouble ahead. A dead-eyed rival named “Munk” and a deadpan anti-narcotics officer named Proshun add to the mix.

Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo Movie Cast: The series tries to shake off the familiarity of daily soap operas with edgy storylines such as Bijlee’s lesbian relationship with a Mumbai DJ and Shanta’s emotionally and sexually involved relationship with Dhiman. The nods to technology and globalization in this gritty borderlands drama make for an engaging watch. Homi Adajania, known for his ability to blur the lines between urban, semi-urban, and metropolitan India, updates the pagers from his earlier work “Gangs of Wasseypur” with smartwatches, VR headsets, and cryptocurrency.

While the show isn’t as edgy or inventive as hoped for, the presence of Dimple Kapadia anchors the series, and the supporting cast is impressive, especially Jimit Trivedi as the deadpan anti-narcotics officer. The eight-episode series is uneven, but it is fun and worth a watch.

Overall, “Saas, Bahu Aur Flamingo” is a revisionist soap opera that has its ups and downs but manages to entertain. The series showcases Homi Adajania’s strengths and is an interesting addition to the Indian streaming landscape.
