Her father, Dr. Mitra Basu Chhillar, is a physician and scientist at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), while her mother, Dr. Neelam Chhillar, heads the neurochemistry department at the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences. Manushi studied at St. Thomas’ School in New Delhi, where she excelled academically, becoming the all-India CBSE topper in English and scoring 96 percent in her class 12 board exams. She cleared the All India Pre Medical Test (now NEET) on her first attempt and was pursuing an MBBS degree at Bhagat Phool Singh Medical College in Sonipat. Fluent in Hindi, English, and Haryanvi, Manushi is also a trained Kuchipudi dancer, having learned under the tutelage of Raja and Radha Reddy.

Pageantry Success

Manushi Chhillar began her journey in pageantry with the Fashion Big Bazaar-sponsored Campus Princess 2016, where she was a finalist representing All India Institute of Medical Sciences. In April 2017, she won the title of Femina Miss India Haryana, representing her state in the annual Femina Miss India contest. During the competition, she was also crowned Miss Photogenic. She went on to win the Femina Miss India World 2017 title, representing Haryana, and later achieved international fame by becoming the sixth Indian to be crowned Miss World in 2017, a title India had last won 17 years prior.
